How Tech Tax Helper Works

Short answerRecord each check and it tells you what to set aside. Snap work receipts, take two odometer pictures a month, and before each due date it walks you through paying. Free, no account.

Tech Tax Helper is a free app for iPhone and Android, made for techs and anyone else paid on a 1099. It doesn’t file your taxes and it doesn’t touch your money. It does the part that usually doesn’t get done: keeping track as you go, telling you what to set aside, and walking you through paying on time.

Setting up takes about a minute

Pick your state and type the names of the companies you work for. That’s it. There’s no account to make and no bank to connect. Every company gets two buttons on your home screen: one for checks and one for purchases.

Every time you get paid

Tap the check button for the company that paid you and type the amount. The app tells you how much to move into your tax savings and how much is yours to spend. It uses 33%, split between the IRS and your state, a safe amount that covers most techs with room to spare. Why 33%.

Every time you buy something for work

Tap the purchase button, type what you bought and the total, and snap a picture of the receipt. Tools, meters, ladders, boots, parts, a work phone, chargebacks the company took out of your pay. The only question it asks is “Only used for work?” If you also use it for personal things, it handles that too. Skip gas receipts: your miles already cover gas. Why. What counts as a work cost.

Two odometer pictures a month

On the first and last day of each month, take a picture of your odometer and type the number. Tell it your personal miles for the month and it works out your work miles at the right IRS rate. No GPS running in the background, no battery drain, nothing tracking where you go. How work miles work.

Before every due date

The IRS wants payments four times a year. Before each due date, the app reminds you and shows two amounts: what to send the IRS and what to send your state. Tap “Show me how to pay” and it opens the official IRS Direct Pay site with a list of exactly what to pick on each screen. Then it saves your confirmation. The steps it walks you through.

At tax time: one file

One button makes a single file for whoever does your return: a plain summary, all your numbers, and every receipt and odometer picture. Last year’s file stays available until April 15, so you can still hand it over after the new year starts.

Saved to your own Google Sheet

  • Your Google Sheet. Connect Google once and the app keeps a spreadsheet for each tax year, plus your receipt and odometer pictures, in your own Google Drive. A lost or broken phone doesn’t take your records with it. The app can only see the files it makes.
  • Works with no signal. It saves on your phone too, so you can record on a roof or in a crawlspace and it catches up when you’re back in service.
  • No account, no ads, no bank connection, and no company server holding your records. WalkTeaming LLC never sees them.

Who it’s for

Built for cable and fiber techs, satellite and smart home installers, security and low-voltage techs, and other field techs. It works the same for delivery drivers and anyone else paid on a 1099. U.S. only, because it’s built around the IRS and U.S. state taxes.

What it isn’t

Tech Tax Helper is a recordkeeping and planning tool. It isn’t connected to the IRS or any state, it doesn’t file returns or send payments, and it isn’t tax advice. The amounts it shows are safe estimates, not your exact tax bill.
